Part of a group exhibit at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa titled 'City of Stone'.

Matera is a place in southern Italy that has been inhabited since the Paleolithic. Built entirely of one type of stone and geographically confined, the city has an coherence that seemingly can be absorbed in a single glance. However, on closer focus, an Escheresque labyrinth of stairs and alleyways leads one to suspect that it may not be possible to ever truly know this place.
