Elm in a Snowstorm
Date of Photograph: 2011
Location: Ottawa - Canada
Before Dutch Elm disease devastated the species in the 1970's, the stately elm was a feature of rural and urban landscapes throughout much of eastern Canada.
This magnificent example survives along the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. The National Capital Commission was able to save a few elms on the park lands it manages by injecting the trees with chemicals.
